Asthma and Allergy Triggers
Although ragweed and dust mites are often blamed for sneezing and itchy eyes this time of year, the NPMA warns that pests like cockroaches, rats and mice are also common asthma and allergy triggers. According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA), cockroach allergens are present in 63 percent of American homes and mouse allergens in 82 percent. Moreover, the number of homes containing cockroach allergens increases to as many as 78 to 98 percent in urban areas.
